BREAKING: 22-Year-Old Carltonio Jackson Arrested in Deadly Metro Bus Shooting in Houston
Houston, TX — The Houston Police Department has arrested 22-year-old Carltonio Jackson in connection with the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Phillip Ogiemwonyi, who was gunned down during a violent altercation aboard a Metro bus on May 23, 2025.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near 2200 West Bellfort, where authorities say an argument between the two men escalated tragically. During the confrontation, Jackson allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Ogiemwonyi in front of other passengers. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In the days following the shooting, Houston police released surveillance images of the suspect, which generated numerous tips from the public. These leads helped investigators identify Jackson, and a warrant for his arrest was swiftly issued.
On Friday, HPD SWAT officers apprehended Jackson without incident. He has since been charged with murder and is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
“This swift arrest reflects the strong cooperation between our investigators, tactical units, and the public,” HPD said in a statement. “We extend our condolences to the family of Phillip Ogiemwonyi during this difficult time.”
The Metro bus shooting has reignited concerns about transit safety and prompted calls for increased security measures on public transportation.
