FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has identified Craig Handzel, a resident of Pitt County, as the armed individual who was fatally shot by a Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday night, following a tense standoff in a residential neighborhood near Claude Lee Road, close to the Fayetteville Regional Airport.

The incident began when Handzel reportedly started a small brush fire in a field. Firefighters from the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the flames. He had a vibrant spirit, a quick smile, and a heart that deeply touched everyone who knew him.

Among the many things Tristan loved, few compared to the joy he found in driving his white Chevy Silverado to truck meets. It was more than a vehicle—it was a symbol of his personality: bold, dependable, and full of life. He also found peace in fishing, and excitement in the growing sport of pickleball, hobbies he shared with both friends and family.

Tristan was preceded in death by his beloved father, Jamey Cox; grandfather, Charles Cox; grandmother, Bonnie Hogland; his Papa, Joe Cox; and great-grandfathers, Gerald Hogland and William Clayton.

He is lovingly survived by:

According to the New Jersey State Police, Thomas Brislin, a resident of Port Jervis, N.Y., was struck while in the roadway along Route 23 south near milepost 51.7 in Montague Township at approximately 7:20 a.m..

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but sadly, Thomas Brislin was pronounced deceased. No additional injuries were reported in the incident, and the driver involved remained at the scene.

TRENTON, Tenn. — A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Trenton community as police confirm the drowning death of a 5-year-old autistic girl early Tuesday morning.

According to Trenton Police Chief Bill Cusson, officers were dispatched around 6 a.m. to the 100 block of Lyndale Street after receiving a report that the young child had gone missing from her home. Officers immediately began canvassing the surrounding area in a desperate effort to locate her.

While searching, an officer noticed a black fence with a visible gap in the 100 block of Adams Street, just across a nearby field. Inside the yard, he saw a pool and the homeowner sitting outside drinking coffee. The officer approached and informed the resident about the missing child.

Upon investigating the pool area with the homeowner, the officer made a devastating discovery — the child was at the bottom of the pool.

Without hesitation, he radioed for assistance and jumped into the water to pull the child out. A second officer quickly arrived on scene and began performing CPR. The little girl was transported to the Milan Emergency Room, but tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Chief Cusson confirmed the drowning and said the investigation remains ongoing, as authorities work to determine how the child managed to access the neighbor’s pool.

MOBILE, Ala.  — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has released new details surrounding the heartbreaking crash that claimed the lives of two teenage girls in Mobile earlier this month. Nearly three weeks after the tragedy, ALEA officials confirmed no criminal charges are expected to be filed against the driver involved.

The fatal crash occurred around 1 a.m. on July 2, along Airport Boulevard near Trailwood Boulevard, where 16-year-old Tykerriya and 15-year-old Malaysia were walking in the roadway when they were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.

According to the official crash report, the driver told investigators she did not see the girls because her windshield was “frosted” at the time of the collision. The report notes, “It’s unclear why,” referring to the condition of the windshield. The driver also stated she was unaware of what she had hit until she got out of her car and then attempted to render aid to the girls.

The report confirms that both Tykerriya and Malaysia were walking westbound along the right side of Airport Boulevard, in the same direction the vehicle was traveling. The driver was reportedly in the outside lane at the time of the impact.
