Keith McAlister Obituary, Death – Hempstead Man Fatally Injured in Tragic MRI Accident

Keith McAlister, 61, of Hempstead, New York, tragically passed away following a devastating accident at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, when McAlister was pulled into an active MRI machine while wearing a large metal chain around his neck.

Emergency services responded to a 911 call at the facility, located on Old Country Road, where McAlister was critically injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead on the afternoon of Thursday, July 17.

According to his wife, Adrienne Jones-McAllister, she was undergoing a scan and had asked her husband to help her up. When he entered the MRI room, the powerful magnetic field pulled him toward the machine due to the chain he was wearing. Despite desperate efforts by Jones-McAllister and a technician, he could not be saved. “He went limp in my arms,” she told News 12 in a heartbreaking interview.

The accident has drawn renewed attention to MRI safety, with the tragedy coinciding with the start of MR Safety Week—an annual observance established in memory of a 6-year-old boy who died in a similar MRI-related incident in 2001.

Keith McAlister is remembered as a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His stepdaughter, Samantha Bodden, started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses, noting that Keith lived on a fixed income and the family is in need of support during this painful time. The fundraiser has since garnered over $4,000 in donations.

  • Camden Childers Obituary, Death; – Newton Officer Indicted for Murder in Fatal Shooting Ruled Unjustified, Says District Attorney

Camden Childers Obituary, Death; – Newton Officer Indicted for Murder in Fatal Shooting Ruled Unjustified, Says District Attorney

The fatal shooting of 21-year-old Camden Childers by a Newton police officer has been ruled not legally justified, according to a statement released by District Attorney Scott Reilly on July 22. The incident, which took place on June 26, has led to a second-degree murder indictment against Newton Police Lieutenant Carlos Uribe.

According to law enforcement, Childers was operating a motorcycle recklessly, without a registration plate, and refused to stop for officers while traveling toward Conover. The situation escalated into a pursuit, which ended when Childers’ motorcycle collided with a police vehicle on Northern Drive NW. Authorities said a brief struggle followed the crash, during which Uribe allegedly discharged his weapon, fatally wounding Childers.

Childers was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

District Attorney Reilly emphasized the need for accountability in his official statement:

“I acknowledge the difficulty and gravity of decisions officers face daily. However, when those decisions cross the line into excessive or unlawful force, leading to the loss of life, it becomes my obligation to act in accordance with the law. Justice demands accountability, regardless of profession or position,” he said.

Reilly concluded with a firm message: “No one is above the law, and no one is beneath its protection.”

The investigation into the events leading up to and surrounding Childers’ death remains ongoing.

Bernice LaRochelle Obituary, Death – 78-Year-Old Woman Killed in Griswold Crash; Norwich Man Arrested

Griswold, CT – The community is mourning the loss of Bernice LaRochelle, a 78-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a devastating crash while walking along Main Street in the borough of Jewett City.

On that afternoon, at approximately 3:44 p.m., police say a BMW driven by 37-year-old Ean King of Norwich veered off the road, mounted the sidewalk, and struck multiple objects—including a street sign, the Post Office, two parked cars, and tragically, LaRochelle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person sitting in a parked vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an in-depth investigation, King was arrested on Monday, July 21, 2025, and faces several charges, including:

•Second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle

    •Third-degree assault

    •Reckless driving

    •DUI (drugs/alcohol)

    •Operating on a sidewalk

    •Lane violations

    •Seatbelt violations

According to the arrest warrant, King claimed that an object in his back seat had rolled forward and obstructed the brake pedal. However, crash data from the BMW indicated that the accelerator remained steadily engaged, contradicting his statement. Toxicology reports concluded that King was under the influence of cannabis and a narcotic analgesic at the time of the crash.

He was arraigned Monday with bond set at $150,000, and his next court date is scheduled for September 16.

Bernice LaRochelle’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving. She is remembered as a kind and gentle soul whose life was cut short far too soon.
