  • Tragic Murder-Suicide Investigated in Arlington: Couple’s Past Relationship Uncovered

ARLINGTON, TX — A devastating tragedy unfolded Friday morning, July 11, 2025, at a local hair salon in Arlington, where authorities say a murder-suicide took the lives of two individuals previously involved in a romantic relationship.

According to the Arlington Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 10:17 a.m. reporting an active shooting at a salon in the 7800 block of South Cooper Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old William Todd Austin had been fatally shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter, 37-year-old Michelle Williams, entered the salon and reportedly opened fire on Austin, who was there as a customer. Witnesses inside the salon recounted a chaotic and horrifying scene as the shooting unfolded. Williams then attempted to flee the building, but when she noticed law enforcement arriving, she turned back inside and took her own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Investigators have since uncovered that Austin and Williams had a previous romantic relationship, though the exact motive behind the shooting remains unclear. The Arlington Police Department continues to examine all aspects of the incident, including any history of domestic issues between the two.

Several other patrons and salon employees were present during the tragic event, but no other injuries have been reported. The swift response by law enforcement likely prevented further harm.

“This was a tragic and horrifying situation for everyone involved,” said an Arlington Police spokesperson. “Our hearts go out to the families affected and to those who witnessed this traumatic event.”

Authorities are urging anyone who may have additional information related to the case to come forward as the investigation remains active.

Those with information are encouraged to contact Arlington PD Detective Blake Ritchie at 817-459-5772 or via email at blake.ritchie@arlingtontx.gov.

This heartbreaking act of violence has left the Arlington community shaken, as friends, families, and witnesses struggle to come to terms with a tragedy that unfolded in broad daylight, in a place meant to offer comfort and self-care.

  • Scotty McCreery Mourns the Heartbreaking Loss of Both Grandmothers

Country music star Scotty McCreery is facing unimaginable grief after the loss of his two beloved grandmothers, Janet and Paquita, who both passed away on July 9, 2025, just hours apart. The heartbreaking news was shared by Scotty the following day, as he took to social media to honor their memory and ask for prayers during this difficult time.

“My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away,” Scotty wrote in an emotional post. “I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them. I will miss them dearly. If y’all could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.”

Alongside his heartfelt message, Scotty posted a treasured photo of himself and his wife Gabi with both grandmothers on their wedding day in 2018—a moment that captured the love and joy they shared as a family. Scotty and Gabi are parents to their two-year-old son, Avery, and are currently expecting their second child. The timing of this loss, while anticipating a new life, has added a bittersweet layer to their grief.

Scotty’s mother, Judy McCreery, also spoke out about the family’s devastating day. Her mother, Janet, passed away shortly after 1 PM on July 9. Janet, 85, had been battling norovirus and the flu, which led to dehydration and pneumonia. Just three hours later, Scotty’s paternal grandmother, Paquita, passed at the age of 93 after what Judy described as “declining health.”

Paquita had become a fan favorite when she appeared on Celebrity Family Feud in 2018, stealing hearts and laughs by flirtatiously engaging with host Steve Harvey—a moment the family remembers fondly. Her joyful spirit and quick wit will live on in the many stories and smiles she left behind.

As the McCreery family navigates this double loss, the outpouring of love and support from fans, friends, and the country music community has been a source of strength. Scotty’s openness in sharing his grief serves as a reminder of the deep bonds that connect us and the legacy of love grandparents leave behind.

Janet and Paquita will be dearly missed—as mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and women who helped shape the heart of one of country music’s most beloved voices.

Please continue to keep the McCreery family in your thoughts and prayers.
