Community Mourns After Two Fatal Shootings in Chelsea and Midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY — The city is reeling after two tragic and unrelated shootings claimed the lives of 21-year-old Raqiese Cohen and 30-year-old Marco Reyes late last night. Both men were fatally shot in separate incidents just hours apart, sending shockwaves through the Chelsea and Midtown communities.

Raqiese Cohen was shot and killed outside his home at the Fulton Houses in Chelsea. Shortly afterward, Marco Reyes was gunned down near the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown. The circumstances of both shootings are under investigation, and law enforcement officials are working tirelessly to identify those responsible.

“These senseless acts of violence have left families devastated and our communities shaken,” said a city official. “While we’ve seen encouraging progress in reducing overall crime rates, these incidents highlight the ongoing threat of gun violence that continues to plague our neighborhoods.”

Authorities emphasize the urgent need to address the proliferation of illegal firearms and to bolster public safety efforts. Community leaders are calling for increased resources, cooperation from the public, and renewed focus on gun violence prevention.

Officials have been in contact with the NYPD’s 10th Precinct and Midtown South Precinct to support ongoing investigations. Residents are urged to come forward with any information that could aid detectives.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of Mr. Cohen and Mr. Reyes,” the official said. “We stand with you in grief, and we remain committed to seeking justice.”

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can be submitted anonymously and may help prevent further violence.
