Driver Identified in Fatal Highway 101 Crash Near Gonzales
GONZALES, Calif. — Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic crash that claimed one life on Friday afternoon along a busy stretch of Highway 101, between Salinas and Chualar. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 47-year-old Jesus Alfardo-Burboa was killed in the collision, which involved a semi-truck and a red pickup truck.
The fatal crash occurred just south of Gonzales, near the intersection of Highway 101 and Hartnell Road, a rural route often frequented by local drivers.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a semi-truck was traveling southbound on Highway 101 and began to make a left-hand turn onto Hartnell Road. As the truck crossed over the northbound lanes to complete the turn, it collided with a red pickup truck traveling north — driven by Alfardo-Burboa.
Emergency responders arrived quickly on the scene, but Jesus Alfardo-Burboa was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. Authorities have not reported any additional injuries.
The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including factors such as speed, visibility, and right-of-way.
