Former Michigan Deputy Ronald Belko Sentenced for Years of Child Sexual Abuse

SAGINAW, MI — On Monday, June 2, 2025, former sheriff’s deputy Ronald Belko was sentenced to 18 to 60 years in prison for a series of horrific child sexual abuse crimes that spanned multiple counties in Michigan and occurred over several years prior to 2009. In addition to his prison sentence, Belko will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring upon release, ensuring ongoing oversight for the rest of his life.

Belko, who served in the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department from 1993 until his retirement in 2021, pleaded guilty in April 2025 to multiple charges stemming from his sexual abuse of young boys in both Saginaw and Cheboygan counties. According to court documents, his victims were minors — some as young as under 13 — and the abuse involved both physical injury and multiple instances of predatory conduct.

Specifically, Belko admitted guilt to:

  • One count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Personal Injury
  • Two counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Multiple Variables
  • Two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Victim Under 13

These crimes came to light after years of silence, during which victims finally came forward and investigators were able to compile a comprehensive case against the former law enforcement officer. The charges reflect the seriousness of Belko’s actions and the long-term trauma inflicted on his victims.

During sentencing, the courtroom was filled with emotion as several survivors and their families delivered impact statements, recounting the enduring pain and betrayal they experienced at the hands of someone they once trusted — a person who was sworn to serve and protect. Prosecutors described Belko’s actions as a gross abuse of power and trust, emphasizing the calculated nature of his crimes and the long-term harm caused.

The judge, in delivering the sentence, acknowledged the bravery of the survivors in coming forward and expressed hope that the outcome would provide a measure of justice and healing. “This court recognizes the deep scars left by your actions,” the judge said. “Justice demands accountability, especially from those in positions of authority who exploit the vulnerable.”

Belko’s sentencing represents a hard-won moment of accountability in a case that underscores the importance of safeguarding children and holding those in power to the highest standards of conduct. As the victims and their families continue the difficult process of healing, the case serves as a sobering reminder of the need for vigilance, transparency, and unwavering support for survivors of abuse.
