HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER MULTIPLE VICTIMS SHOT IN DANVILLE, VA

Danville, VA – A deadly overnight shooting in Danville has left one man dead and several others injured, prompting a homicide investigation by the Danville Police Department.

The violent incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, near the intersection of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive. Officers were dispatched to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a Chrysler sedan stationary in the roadway on Carver Drive.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a deceased male in the front passenger seat, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim has been identified as Jay’Shaun Tiejae White, 22, of Hurt, Virginia.

The suspected driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Java, Virginia, was found nearby on an adjacent street, also suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by EMS to SOVAH Health Danville for medical care.

Shortly after the initial response, three additional gunshot victims arrived at SOVAH Health Danville. All were determined to have sustained injuries during the same incident on Carver Drive. The additional victims are:

  • A 31-year-old male from Danville
  • A 25-year-old male from Danville
  • A 19-year-old female from Danville

The female victim was treated and released, while the three male victims — including the 26-year-old driver — were transferred to other medical facilities for further treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

According to initial findings, the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving individuals at a large outdoor gathering near the intersection of Carver and Cheyenne Drives. Police believe shots were exchanged between individuals in the Chrysler and people attending the gathering.

This is an active homicide investigation, and authorities are working to determine exactly how the events unfolded, who was involved, and what led to the exchange of gunfire.

The Danville Police Department is urging anyone who may have been present at the scene or has information — including video recordings or witness accounts — to come forward and assist in the investigation.
