In Loving Memory of Helen Cowan Margiotti

Memory of Helen Cowan Margiotti

Vineland, NJ — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Cowan Margiotti, a beloved and long-serving librarian at the Vineland Public Library’s Children’s Department. Known to countless young readers and families as “Miss Helen,” she devoted over thirty years of her life to nurturing a love of reading, imagination, and lifelong learning among the children and teens of Vineland.

Miss Helen was more than a librarian — she was a storyteller, an educator, a mentor, and a joyful presence in the lives of many. Her vibrant storytelling sessions, often filled with warmth, enthusiasm, and humor, became cherished traditions that lit up the library and drew children from all over the community. Through books, songs, crafts, and her endless kindness, she helped generations of young readers discover the magic of stories and the comfort of a welcoming space.

Her passion for literacy was matched only by her unwavering belief that every child deserved access to the joys of reading. Whether organizing reading programs, recommending the perfect book, or simply listening with genuine interest and care, Helen brought heart to everything she did. She was a constant presence, not only within the library but also in the lives of the families she served.

Helen’s influence reached far beyond the stacks of books and into the heart of the Vineland community. Colleagues remember her as deeply dedicated and endlessly generous. Parents remember her as a guiding hand in their children’s development. And children — now grown — remember her as the one who first showed them how a book could open doors to other worlds.

As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Miss Helen’s love for literature, her commitment to community, and her compassionate spirit will continue to inspire all those who had the honor of knowing her.

She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.
