Robert Bornt, NYSDOT Highway Maintenance Supervisor
It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of Robert Bornt, a respected and dedicated Highway Maintenance Supervisor with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Robert passed away on Friday morning from catastrophic injuries sustained during a work zone crash that occurred while he was engaged in a flagging operation in Pittstown on Thursday afternoon.
Robert was more than a colleague—he was a proud and steadfast member of the NYSDOT family. His unwavering commitment to public service and roadway safety exemplified the very best of what it means to serve. Like so many of our highway workers, Robert was performing vital work, ensuring that New York’s roads remained safe and accessible for all who travel them.
His passing is a profound loss to our department and to the entire community of transportation professionals across the state. The impact of Robert’s work reached far beyond the roads he helped maintain—his dedication, leadership, and camaraderie touched the lives of many.
We ask that you keep Robert, his family, friends, and fellow team members in your thoughts during this difficult time. Let us also honor his legacy by renewing our collective commitment to the safety of those who work tirelessly, often in dangerous conditions, to keep our state moving forward.
Rest in peace, Robert. Your service will not be forgotten.
