Man Arrested Following Homicide Investigation in Brandon

BRANDON, FL — A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday evening in the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 1, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m., deputies responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in Brandon. Upon arrival, they learned that a dispute between two men had escalated in the breezeway of the building. During the argument, the suspect reportedly retrieved a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Darien Lamont Henry, was rushed to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 32-year-old Delfeayo McCoy. He was located hours later at a residence on the 4900 block of 80th Street South in Tampa and taken into custody.

McCoy now faces the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

In a statement addressing the arrest, Sheriff Chad Chronister said:

“While this arrest will bring some measure of accountability, it cannot bring back the life that was lost. These senseless acts of violence must stop. Our detectives’ efforts to quickly locate and arrest this suspect demonstrate their commitment to justice and keeping our community safe.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is still active and ongoing. Further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office as more information becomes available.
