MASS SHOOTING IN HICKORY, NORTH CAROLINA: One Dead, Eleven Injured in Overnight Tragedy
HICKORY, NC – A community is reeling after a mass shooting early Sunday morning in the Mountain View area of southwest Catawba County left one person dead and eleven others injured.
The violent incident unfolded just after 12:45 a.m. on Walnut Acres Drive, where a large gathering was taking place at a private residence. According to law enforcement officials, multiple individuals opened fire during the event, sparking chaos and sending attendees fleeing for safety.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and discovered a grim situation. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim remains in critical condition. Ten additional victims sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly updated.
A multi-agency investigation is now underway. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Hickory Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), is actively working to piece together what led to the tragic outbreak of gun violence.
At this time, no suspect has been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of multiple shooters and are urging anyone who attended the gathering or may have witnessed the shooting to come forward with information.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” said officials in a joint statement. “We are working diligently to identify those responsible and ask for the public’s cooperation in bringing justice to the victims and their families.”
Law enforcement has not disclosed a possible motive, and the identities of the victims have not yet been released pending family notifications.
