Mass Shooting Suspect Tied to Separate Violent Crime Granted $200K Bond

Newton, NC — A man accused in a mass shooting at a Catawba County house party is once again behind bars, but not without controversy. Garon Killian, who now faces multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder, has been granted a $200,000 bond — despite already being out on bond from a previous violent incident just two months earlier.

Killian is charged with attempted first-degree murder for his alleged role in the recent mass shooting, which left several people injured and the community reeling. In addition, he faces seven counts of attempted first-degree murder from an earlier shooting in March. He had been released at that time on a $50,000 bond, raising concerns about bond policies and public safety.

The decision to set bond in the latest case has sparked outrage, even among Killian’s own acquaintances, who told reporters they were shocked the judge did not deny bond entirely. Prosecutors argued Killian presents a clear danger to the public, while the defense claimed he should be allowed to await trial outside of custody.

The judge’s ruling includes strict conditions, though details on those restrictions have not been fully disclosed.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate both shooting incidents, and more charges could be forthcoming as evidence is reviewed.

The case has reignited debate around pretrial release for violent offenders, especially repeat suspects involved in high-risk crimes
