Scottsburg, IN — It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of Bree’s Blessings’ most cherished kiddos, Matthew Walker. From the very beginning, Matthew has been a part of our mission, our hearts, and our family. He wasn’t just a recipient of our gifts he was a light within our organization, a true warrior who taught us all what it means to live with bravery, purpose, and unconditional love.
Bree’s Blessings, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Scottsburg, Indiana, is dedicated to bringing healing and hope to children battling cancer through the power of art and music. In Matthew, we saw not only a fighter but an artist of the soul—someone who painted our world with joy even during his darkest days. From the moment he joined us, Matthew’s presence brought a kind of light that could not be dimmed, no matter the weight of the battles he faced.
Matthew’s journey through illness was long and often painful, but he never let it steal his joy. No matter what came his way treatments, hospital stays, or physical challenges he always met them with a smile that lit up the room. It was that smile, that spark in his eyes, that reminded us all why we do what we do.
To say that Matthew was inspirational feels too small a word. He embodied resilience. He met each new day with courage, hope, and an endless reservoir of love for his family, friends, and everyone who walked alongside him. Everyone who followed his story was touched by his strength and deeply moved by his unshakable will to live and love fully.
To his incredible family our hearts break for you. We see your pain, we honor your grief, and we lift you up with all the love and support we can give. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of Matthew’s life. Please know that our thoughts, our prayers, and our unending gratitude go out to you in these days, weeks, months, and years ahead. The pain of this loss is immense, and though it may never fully fade, neither will the brilliance of Matthew’s memory.
Matthew light will continue to shine through every piece of artwork, every note of music, every child we serve in his honor. He showed us how to fight with grace, to love with our whole hearts, and to smile—no matter what.
