Reward Raised to $40,000 for Information Leading to Arrest of Suspect in Officer Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The search continues for 21-year-old Daveonte Dixon, who is wanted in connection with the shooting of two Mifflin Township police officers during a traffic stop Wednesday evening. As law enforcement intensifies its efforts, the reward for information leading to Dixon’s arrest has now grown to $40,000.

The incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. near Mecca Road and Perdue Avenue, when officers conducted a routine traffic stop. Dixon was a passenger in the vehicle. According to police, just minutes into the stop, Dixon exited the car and began to flee. During the foot chase, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the pursuing officers.

One officer was struck multiple times, including once in the face, while the second officer was hit in the right arm. Both officers were rushed to Grant Medical Center, where one remains in critical condition following emergency surgeries. The other officer, listed in stable condition, has since been released.

Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin called the incident a “shocking and unprovoked act of violence” against law enforcement.

Authorities have since identified Dixon as the suspect through statements made by the vehicle’s driver, who is cooperating with the investigation. The driver told detectives that he had picked Dixon up and they were on their way to purchase a watch when police stopped them.

In response to the shooting, multiple agencies have come together to offer a combined $40,000 reward for information leading to Dixon’s capture. The Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 initially pledged $10,000, which was matched and exceeded by an additional $25,000 from the FBI’s Cincinnati Field Office, and $5,000 from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that Dixon should be considered armed and dangerous. A coordinated manhunt is currently underway, and the public is urged not to approach him but to report any sightings or information.

Anyone with knowledge of Dixon’s whereabouts is asked to contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers or the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office immediately. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

As the investigation continues, the community stands in solidarity with the injured officers and their families, hoping for a swift recovery and the safe apprehension of the suspect.
