Teen Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run in Newton County, Georgia
NEWTON COUNTY, GA — A tragic hit-and-run accident has left a community in mourning after a 15-year-old boy from Covington was struck and killed late Monday night in Newton County.
The fatal incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Highway 36, just south of Hummingbird Lane. According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived on the scene to find the teenage victim lying unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending family notification. However, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that he was 15 years old and a resident of Covington.
Evidence recovered at the scene indicates that the vehicle involved in the collision is a pearl white vehicle, though the make and model have not yet been confirmed. The driver fled the scene before deputies arrived, and investigators are now urgently working to identify the suspect.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for the family and for the entire community,” said a spokesperson from the Sheriff’s Office. “We are doing everything we can to bring justice to the victim and his loved ones.”
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have information about the crash or the vehicle involved to come forward. Even the smallest detail could be critical in solving the case.
