SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Following a violent weekend marked by two separate shooting incidents at T.W. Briscoe Park, the City of Snellville has issued a statement addressing community concerns and announcing immediate steps to enhance public safety.
According to the city’s official release, two unrelated incidents involving gunfire occurred at the popular park over the weekend, prompting heightened concern from local authorities and residents alike.
The first incident took place on Saturday evening, when gunfire erupted during a large gathering of teenagers. Five teens, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were injured in the shooting. All are currently in stable condition, and the Snellville Police Department has identified several persons of interest as the investigation continues.
The second incident occurred on Sunday afternoon and was the result of a domestic dispute. One individual was shot and is also in stable condition. Police say they are actively pursuing leads in that case as well.
“These isolated incidents are extremely concerning and will not be tolerated,” said Mayor Barbara Bender in the statement. “Be assured, T.W. Briscoe Park is and will remain a safe place for visitors to enjoy. We are taking these events very seriously and are working hard to ensure they do not happen again by increasing security efforts there immediately.”
In response to the violence, the City of Snellville has announced a series of swift security enhancements:
- Increased police patrols at T.W. Briscoe Park
- Additional private security personnel being hired
- Implementation of a lighting and security camera plan to improve monitoring and visibility throughout the park
City officials emphasized their commitment to restoring a sense of safety and trust among residents, especially as the summer season draws more visitors to public spaces.
